About

Jose Escoriza – Owner & Senior Stylist

Jose was born in the south of Spain and is the 5th generation to enter hairdressing as a profession.  After working in a range of salons in Madrid,  Jose immigrated to Australia to work in a family-run salon in Sydney.

In the 1980’s,  Jose moved to Centrepoint and worked for Daisy Bates and other city salons.  Two years later, an opportunity arose for Jose to study as a community youth worker and launched Jose’s career in community social work.  This involved developing and working on programmes for health, education and community services.

Jose still loved hairdressing and combined this with his community social work, by teaching vocational courses for disadvantaged young people in refuges, community heath units and any young people interested in pursuing hairdressing as a career.  In addition, he provided a mobile hairdressing service which enabled the young disadvantaged people to have their hair care needs met on site.  Jose also provided them with vocational courses and workshops.

Jose decided to start yet another chapter of his life, and now finds himself in Gladesville with his own salon, Picasso Hair Art.  He looks forward to continuing his annual tradition of participating in The World’s Greatest Shave and Movember.  So don’t be surprised if you visit him in April and he has either brightly coloured hair, or has shaved his head.
